Our customers have been asking us for a low waste hair gel, and we're so excited to introduce this option! It's a just-add-water formulation, which means no shipping heavy liquid, and no bulky plastic containers to speak of - just a simple compostable packet! And best of all, it's made locally right here in Seattle.

To use this innovative hair styling gel, simply add half a teaspoon of the powder per ounce of hot water to make your desired amount of product. It has a medium hold, and works wonders for encouraging your natural hair texture. We highly recommend it for curly hair - it smooths out frizz, locks in moisture, and encourages springy curls.

It's a natural product that's best used fresh. While it lasts 3 months once mixed, we recommend mixing what you'll use within a month. 

Use and care

Mix 1/2 a teaspoon per fluid ounce of hot water to create your styling gel. Mix thoroughly until smooth - like pancake batter. It will thicken more into a gel consistency as it cools. 

This is a natural product that's best used fresh. While it lasts 3 months once mixed, we recommend mixing what you'll use within a month. 

Use as you would a normal styling gel. Works well after a leave-in moisturizer. With wet hair, add between a dime size to a quarter size amount of hair gel to your palm (depending on desired hold and how much hair you have), and use your hands to evenly spread the product throughout your hair. To encourage curls, scrunch your hair in an upward motion. Let your hair air dry or use a diffused hair dryer.

Instructions

Wash hair, towel dry and apply detangler. For best results: when hair is damp, spray on small amounts at a time and let sit for a few seconds. Comb the hair beginning at the lowest point of the tangled area and proceed one section of hair at a time. Reapply Detangler as needed. Avoid eye contact.

To store this product, we recommend storing in the provided aluminum bottle with a sprayer. Sprayers are optional so that you can reuse them with each refill.

Orange Marmalade's firm-hold formula delivers frizz-free curls with incredible shine. With an optional pump dispenser and fantastic slip, this all-natural gel is easy to apply and gives you consistently beautiful curls each and every wash day.

This product is freshly made in small batches by Ecoslay, a Black-owned brand dedicated to curly hair care products made with natural ingredients. Best kept refrigerated!

Directions

Apply liberally to soaking wet hair. Air dry or diffuse.

We recommend choosing the bottle with a pump for your first order to dispense the product, and for refills you can keep your first pump to reuse again and again with refill bottles (aluminum bottle + screw cap)

Shelf life and storage

Orange Marmalade is fully-preserved with a 9 month shelf life when stored in a cool, dark, dry location. Because Orange Marmalade is an all-natural product and often cool, dry, dark locations are difficult to come by, it is recommended that Orange Marmalade is refrigerated to preserve its shelf life.

Flaxseed extract

• Flaxseed provides nutrition for hair follicles because it’s rich in fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids nourish hair follicles for healthy hair growth. 
• Flaxseed is also rich in protein and selenium, both of which are necessary for growing healthy, shiny hair.
• Flaxseed's omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory, and may lower inflammation associated with hair loss, dandruff and other unhealthy scalp conditions.
• Flaxseed contains vitamin e, which provides additional nourishment for hair follicles and moisturizes the strands.

Agave nectar extract

• Agave nectar provides moisture and gives hair a lustrous shine.
• Agave nectar contains large molecules comprised of polysaccharides. Saponin, inulin, and fructose. These molecules consist of hydroxyl groups that make them hydrophilic meaning that they act like a humectant and draws water to the hair.

Pectin

• Naturally occurring setting agent
• Pectin strengthens the hair cuticle, preventing breakage and improving length retention

Aloe Vera juice

• Aloe vera contains something called proteolytic enzymes which repairs dead skin cells on the scalp.
• Aloe vera juice also acts as a great conditioner and leaves your hair all smooth and shiny.
• Aloe vera juice promotes hair growth, prevents itching on the scalp, reduces dandruff and conditions your hair.
• Aloe vera juice has a chemical makeup similar to that of keratin, the primary protein of hair, consisting of amino acids, oxygen, carbon, and small amounts of hydrogen, nitrogen, and sulphur. 

Marshmallow Root extract

• Marshmallow root is great for soothing and relieving your scalp and hair. It's rich in proteins and vitamins, treating hair ailments like eczema, psoriasis and dry scalp.
• Super slippery, aiding in detangling

Vitamin E

• Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant, supports a healthy scalp and helps maintain hair growth.
• There is some limited evidence to support the claim that vitamin E can help prevent hair loss.

Xanthan Gum

• Natural thickener and holding agent

Optiphen Plus

• Globally approved preservative in the Optiphen family, paraben and formaldehyde-free.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Instructions

Apply to clean wet hair. Using hands or comb work conditioner through covering the entire hair shaft from root to end. Leave on for 1 to 5 minutes depending on how deeply you wish to condition. Rinse thoroughly. Use as often as needed.

To store this product, we recommend using the provided aluminum bottle with a pump lid attachment. Pumps are optional so that you can reuse them with each refill.

Jello Shot is a thick, firm hold hair gel with a jelly like consistency. With okra extact, aloe vera juice and chamomile, this super-thick, strawberry-scented gel firmly holds even the kinkiest curls in place!
