Ingredient details
- Microcrystalline Cellulose - facilitates UNPASTE’s ultra-smooth polishing action, even cleaning and polishing in the interdental spaces. Debris simply beads up on the tooth surface and plaque growth is inhibited.
- Sodium bicarbonate (Baking Soda) - adjusts the pH of the citric acid.
- Silica - serves as a cleaning agent and helps to remove any soft plaque.
- Amisoft (Sodium Lauryl Glutamate) - is a natural, mild, eco-friendly surfactant. Sodium lauryl glutamate should not be confused with monosodium glutamate (MSG), used in the food industry. UNPASTE tablets are MSG-free and gluten-free.
- Magnesium Stearate - is a compound commonly used in tablet manufacturing.
- Natural Mint Flavor from essential oil - gives UNPASTE its breath-freshening power.
- Menthol - helps freshen breath and adds a brisk, cool sensation to brushing.
- Xanthan Gum - is a natural thickener for the tablets, helping them break down smoothly in the mouth.
- Stevia - is a natural sweetener, derived from the leaf of the stevia plant, which does not promote tooth decay.
- Citric Acid - stimulates the flow of saliva in the mouth. This increase in saliva accelerates the remineralization of tooth surfaces.
- Fluoride (optional) - Aids in the prevention tooth decay.

These tablets work well to clean my teeth and the essential oils give it a great taste so my mouth feels fresh and clean.
I especially love the fact that there is no waste when the tablets are finished.
I’ve tried to like these. My boyfriend does so I’ll make these his toothpaste. I’m going to order another brand, I cannot get over how chalky they are. They won’t foam at all. I understand foam doesn’t always mean clean but it leaves something to be desired. I don’t feel this helps freshen my breath or clean my teeth very well. I wish they worked for me the packaging is great.
I enjoy these tablets! It's definitely different than traditional toothpaste, but you get used to it pretty quickly. I've repurchased these a few times. They're also really cost effective compared to other fluoride tablets on the market.
I've used this a few times now since receiving and while I'm slowly getting used to the product, I do feel better about knowing I've reduced my plastic consumption! Like others have noted, these tablets will not foam up which is disappointing. I checked with my dentist and they said to always use a toothpaste with fluoride, so be sure to get the tablets with fluoride! Or ask your dentist for the best option for you!

The metal tube is recyclable, plastic cap is not.
In order to recycle the tube, you will need to clean the excess paste from the inside of the tube. Instructions from the brand below:
1. Take some scissors or shears and cut off both ends of the tube.
2. Cut a slit the full length of the tube to fold open the tube to access the inside of the tube for cleaning....the edges of metal are sharp, so please be careful.
3. Wash off the excess paste with running water.... a toothbrush can be helpful here for removing all the paste.
4. Discard metal in recycle bin. It will be up to your local waste management provider to properly sort/recycle as we do not currently take back used tubes for recycling.

This is my second time purchasing this toothpaste, I love it! I had tried Lush tooth tabs, Toms toothpaste, and tooth powder. The lush products and tooth powder made my teeth sensitive. My dental hygienist commented that charcoal tooth powder can change the pH in your mouth and harm your teeth. The Toms toothpaste I wasn’t a fan of the taste, and I couldn’t locate a Toms recycling program near me. The David’s toothpaste is AWESOME. No sensitivity, the consistency is like normal toothpaste, and the peppermint is very pleasant and not an “earthy tasting” peppermint. My only comment is that when you are done with the toothpaste, it’s a little tricky to cut the packaging apart to clean it before recycling. The edges are sharp and the key makes the tube so flat that you can’t easily cut the side to clean the inside out. I’m happy to do it to reduce my waste, but something to be mindful of. So happy to discover this toothpaste!
I love the rolling key to make sure you get as much toothpaste out of the tube as possible. I also love that the metal tube is recyclable, although the plastic cap is not (in my town) due to its small size. The flavor is not a minty as a traditional Crest or Colgate toothpaste, but still refreshing and probably preferable for those of you who are not fans of mint. I am not sure if it is dentist-recommended - I plan to bring it up with my dentist next time I go in and make sure I am making a healthy choice as well as en environmentally conscious one! The price is admittedly pretty high for a tube of toothpaste, although hopefully it will last a long time, especially with the rolling key. I may post an update to this review with information on how long one tube lasts (brushing 2x a day) and what my dentist says about this product. Be well!

Bamboo toothbrush
Plastic toothbrushes are one of the top ten items found during beach cleanups. In fact, every plastic toothbrush ever made still exists today. These bamboo toothbrushes are such an easy switch! With their easy-grip handles and durable bristles, they're as useful as they are pretty.
Use and care
Apply toothpaste and brush teeth for two minutes,
Sizes
Adult and child sizes available.
Materials
Bamboo handle with nylon bristles.
Packaging
Comes in a compostable paper box and a compostable bioplastic sleeve.
Origin
Sustainably harvested from organic, wild bamboo. Vegan, BPA-free, and certified non-toxic. USDA Certified Bio-Based Product and Green America Certified Business.
End of life
At the end of its life, these toothbrushes can be reused as a cleaning brush or a makeup tool like a brow brush. The handle can be composted, and the bristles are the most advanced bio-based option available, but they're still not biodegradable (pig hair is the only alternative, and it's highly controversial), but they can be recycled anywhere that recycles nylon. To separate, pluck bristles out with pliers, or break the head off to dispose of separately. Read more about composting your toothbrush on our blog.
I mean, can you really go wrong? This toothbrush is perfect for just about anyone, seriously. They last a month or two and they are almost fully compostable, what's no to love? <3
I generally prefer a medium bristle but couldn't find one (anywhere I looked) -- this works just as well, though! Adult size. Happy to be replacing my plastic toothbrushes. Would recommend!
I really love the handle of the toothbrush. It feels very stable in my hand. The bristles are nice and soft, but they don't fall apart in my mouth. It also gets my teeth really clean.
Toothbrush looks great and the handle feels good, however the bristles are pretty hard! I’d say they are more firm than my old plastic toothbrush which was labeled “medium”. Unfortunately, this brush does hurt my gums quite a bit. Also, I wish there was a different color option to avoid confusion with other members of the household. My husband’s has a charming piece of blue painters tape on his.
Everything I need in a toothbrush. I wish the bristles could be compostable, but it's still great to have a fully compostable bamboo handle. It feels nice in my hand, and I think that these toothbrushes actually last longer than "regular" plastic ones (at least, I haven't noticed the bristles starting to wear down yet like a plastic toothbrush's bristles would by this time. When do you REALLY need to replace a bamboo toothbrush, anyway?)
Stainless steel tongue scraper
The ayurvedic practice of tongue scraping has a myriad of health benefits. Scraping your tongue improves breath, immunity, dental hygiene, quality of taste, and digestive health.
Tongue scraping is an oral hygiene practice that removes bacteria, food particles, fungi, toxins, and dead cells from the surface of the tongue.
Overnight, our bodies cleanse themselves of toxins and bacteria and deposit them on the surface of the tongue. A stainless steel tongue scraper keeps these particles from being reabsorbed much more effectively than a toothbrush which only loosens the particles.
Use and care
Cleanse by rinsing after each use and occasionally with boiling water.
Packaging
None.
Material
Stainless steel.
Origin
Manufactured in an environmentally conscious factory in China.
End of life
This item comes with a lifetime warranty, and we will happily replace your tongue scraper if it has a defect or breaks from normal use! If it accidentally gets chewed up by your kitchen sink garbage disposal however, we can't replace it but it is recyclable.
This has been my first time using a ayurvedic tongue scraper and I’m never going back. It’s been so much more effective than using my toothbrush. Personally, I’ve found it removes build up and keeps my breath fresher longer.
After the first time my partner saw me use it, he wanted to buy one too! Highly recommend if you’re considering investing in one!
Scrapes stuff from my tongue effectively. It also looks great. After a few months, I bought another one for my wife.
I have used a tongue scraper for years but they have always been the cheap plastic ones. This is a great product. I have been using it for the past month and feel a lot cleaner. I used the plastic one i still had, and found that my mouth didn't feel nearly as clean. I highly recommend this one over a plastic one that you have to replace every month or so. This one is easy to clean and sterilize. Its worth the extra few dollars, in 2 months you've already got your moneys worth.
Refillable dental floss
If everyone in the U.S. flossed their teeth according to ADA recommendations, our empty containers alone would fill a landfill the size of a football field that’s 6 stories high in just one year — just for the empty floss dispensers!
Refillable dental floss is a simple and stylish solution. Each new floss purchase comes with a refillable glass container with a 33 yard spool of compostable silk or corn floss.
Refills are available separately in packs of 2 spools (66 yards total!) so you can use your container again and again.
The silk floss is the classic compostable floss we have always carried, and we now have a new compostable vegan corn-based version as well!
Since this floss is biodegradable, it can be a bit more prone to breakage than regular plastic floss; it can sometimes break between very tight spots between your teeth. We offer both silk and corn floss because the silk is a bit sturdier and might be a preferred option if you have tight spaces between your teeth.
Ingredients
The silk floss is made with 100% compostable silk. The other ingredients are candelilla wax and natural mint flavoring.
The vegan floss is made with a compostable corn fiber, candelilla wax and natural mint flavoring.
Packaging
Floss dispensers are a small glass container with a metal lid. They come in a small kraft recyclable paper box.
Floss refills come in a small kraft recyclable paper box and a compostable paper wrapper.
Origin
Manufactured in China.
End of life
The floss is compostable after use, and the container is refillable! The container can also be recycled or passed along to a friend if it doesn't work out for you (but we hope it will!)
I bought silk floss refills with the glass dispenser and it works really well. I love the aesthetics of the glass dispenser, too. I plan to try the corn floss next.
Refillable floss that's biodegradable is great, but the corn floss breaks pretty much every other time I use it. I'll probably stick with it, but it does take some getting used to.
I was a bit concerned after reading the description that said it "may break in tight spots", but I have had no problems at all! I am impressed with the quality of the floss and will definitely continue to purchase.
I love the container because it's plain! It's very easy to use and quite compact. I also like that my teeth feel thoroughly clean after I floss! However, I have a lot of fillings and tight areas, so unfortunately the corn floss itself isn't a great fit for those spots. I'll be using it in the areas that I can, and I'll definitely give the silk floss a go. The nice thing is, for the most part, I just need a different refillable floss type. I'm happy that it's plastic free !! And very cost effective!
I was excited to make the switch to this dental floss! The pros are that is is both vegan and compostable. The downsides are that it is pretty thick and that it breaks between some of my teeth. Those traits mean I will not be able to convince others in my house to use it, but I'll keep at it.
Alum stone deodorant and aftershave
The deodorant crystal our customers are raving about!
The alum stone is a highly unique natural deodorant that can also be used as an aftershave. This amazing crystal deodorant is made of mineral salt, so it stops odor-producing bacteria from forming, making it a safe and effective natural deodorant. Each stone will last you for several years!
Alum stones will help you sweat less, but they don't block your pores like an antiperspirant would, meaning they still allow your body to naturally cool down and release toxins when it needs to. They are a beautiful and package free alternative to deodorant that's completely nontoxic.
Alum stones have been used since antiquity as a styptic and a deodorizer. The secret to using this crystal as a deodorant is to have clean skin before you apply! You can read more about how to use alum stones on our blog. When used as an aftershave on the legs or face, it soothes nicks and cuts, and helps to prevent razor burn or skin irritation from shaving.
Each alum stone is a unique mineral crystal with slight variations in shape and appearance. They are natural, hypoallergenic, cruelty-free and vegan.
Use and care
Gently wet the surface and apply as you would deodorant.
The alum stone works best when your pores are clean and open, such as after a shower. You can also use a warm or soapy washcloth to cleanse your underarm, and then apply the stone. Either works just fine! Cleansing your underarm first is the trick to what makes this so effective.
It can have a bit of an adjustment period like any natural deodorant. We suggest giving the detox phase a few weeks for it to work its best.
Please note: It is a salt crystal that dissolves with moisture, so pat dry if needed and store in a dry place. We recommend using an old jar lid as a tray for your alum stone!
It does not expire, nor is it temperature sensitive. With daily use, this stone should last over two years.
Types
Classic - Each alum stone is a unique mineral crystal with slight variations in shape and appearance.
Imperfect (not currently available) - We inspect each stone from our manufacturer and have discounted some due to more noticeable imperfections. "Imperfect" alum stones are not broken, they are typically just slightly chipped around the edges, but work just as well!
Travel/sample size (not currently available) - This is a perfect way to sample an alum stone if you're unsure, or just want a smaller piece for travel. These are pieces of stones that were broken during shipment, so putting these to use is truly zero waste! Each has a smooth outer side that can glide against your skin.
Size
This stone weighs 5.3 oz.
Ingredients
Potassium Alum (Mineral Salts).
Alum stones contain a naturally occurring form of aluminum (Potassium Alum) that does not possess the same health risks as the aluminums in many antiperspirant deodorants (Aluminum Chloride/Chlorohydrate/Zirconium), which block sweat ducts and glands. Potassium Alum is a different chemical compound and stays on the surface of your skin, making alum stones safe to use.
Does not contain Parabens.
Packaging
None.
Origin
Made in France.

Use until it’s too small to hold. It can last about 5 years, depending on how often you use it. You’ll end up with a small piece that's basically a rock, so you won’t want to put it in a compost bin but what you can do is sand it into a powder (it’s a very soft crystal), add water and put it in a spray bottle to keep using as deodorant! Zero waste!
I was skeptical about replacing my standard deodorant with this, but it really works! I'm thrilled!
my underarms have always been extremely sensitive to the point where even natural deodorants constantly broke me out in a rash AND made them dark! I’ve found one that worked a little but it did NOTHING for odor - if anything I think it made it worse! But on the first use with this, NO SMELL ALL DAY! Like wow - a week into using it and no rash either. Never thought a rock would be the answer to my sensitive underarms
This stone is like magic to me! I am an extremely active individual and the deodorant stone held up against my sweaty post run-pits. I spray my stone with water infused with essential oils to give my underarms a nice fragrance. I also sewed a little pouch out of repurposed fabric to keep my stone and spray bottle in while traveling. I highly recommend switching to this zero waste alternative!! Thank you eco-collective for introducing me to such a fabulous product!
I have been on the lookout for a packaging-free deodorant for a while and this is perfect! I've been using a variety of natural (homemade and store-bought) deodorants for the past six years. There is the detox period but I don't mind it. Thanks for offering this option!
I have used this product for several days now and am loving it! It goes on so smooth when I wet it a little in my sink.
I would compare it’s effectiveness to other natural aluminum free deodorants and have not noticed any BO smell, I am a recreational athlete so this is important! It won’t keep you from sweating but neither do any of the other natural deodorants. Best of all this is plastic free!!
Stainless steel safety razor
Over 2 billion disposable plastic razors are thrown out each year in the U.S. alone. A safety razor is a fantastic alternative to disposable razors, and this one can last you a lifetime. This attractive stainless steel razor is appropriate for all your shaving needs, regardless of your gender.
As women, we got sick of paying more for our razors just because they’re pink and come with fancy features (that we were never quite convinced were necessary). We bring you this sleek alternative. It’s unisex, easy to travel with, and reusable for a lifetime. Blades are just $2.25 for a set of 10!
For more info on bundled products:
Use and care
Allow the weight of the razor to guide you; never press down with the razor head or drag it across your skin like you might with a disposable razor. Use a shaving soap for best results. When you follow these tips, you'll have a cleaner, safer shave. To travel, simply remove the blade. Dry off the razor after each use and replace the blade when it becomes dull; Bea Johnson says her sons take the razor head apart to let the blade dry after every shave, and the blades last them for an impressive 6 months!
Materials
Stainless steel.
Packaging
None. Blades come wrapped in paper.
Origin
Manufactured in China through an environmentally conscious factory.
End of life
The safety razor should last a lifetime if you take care of it properly.
Replacement blades can be sharpened with denim and eventually recycled.
We recommend collecting used blades in a closed metal container for safety since they are sharp and could be hazardous to you or anyone else handling them on their way to be recycled. Blades fit well in our 2 oz screw top tin, or you can use something you have at home.
To recycle the blades, we have a few suggestions...
- An easy catch-all option is to ship them to Albatross Designs (PO Box 2254 Berkeley, CA 94702), a company that recycles used razor blades - just be sure to double-envelope them or ship the closed tin of blades so they don't cut through the envelope.
- You can also check with your local recycling collection service to ask if it's alright to put the closed container of blades directly in the recycling bin. Some are okay with it, and others aren't!
- Another option is to take your tin of blades directly to a nearby scrap metal recycler.
This razor is the best razor I’ve ever used. It’s my first safety razor (instead of like a disposable razor or electric razor), and I love it soo much. It gives such a clean shave, and I only nicked myself a few times on the legs, tbh not too bad for the first time using it! The only thing I would change is the handle, if it had better grip/wasn’t so smooth I think it could make the razor overall better. I 100% recommended this razor though, and it’s a great small step to take in being more eco-friendly :)
This razor worked very well with the shaving soap from Eco Collective; I haven't tried the razor yet with other shaving soaps/creams. The razor left my skin much more smooth and bump-free compared to disposable razors, which was pleasantly surprising. Not sure yet how many times I can shave with the same razor knife before it starts nicking the skin, but I will learn as I go!
I was so excited to pick up this razor from Eco Collective - it's great that they're still offering pick up during COVID. It was a quick & safe handoff & I took my razor home. I was very nervous my first time shaving & went very slowly but it turned out amazing! Didn't cut myself once & my legs were more smooth than I've ever been able to get them with a Venus razor. Since then I've been slowly getting more confident in my shaving abilities, have cut myself twice but it hasn't deterred me. The key, I think, is showering in hot water to relax your hair follicles, using lots of soap or shaving cream & not adding any weight to the razor. I take the pieces apart to let them dry after every use, and so far, no rust. I'm so happy I was able to buy from a local business and continue eliminating plastic from my life.
I was nervous about trying this, but I made it through my first shave without nicking myself and my legs feel SO SMOOTH! Love!
I had been very nervous to try the safety razor. I finally used all the razors I had on hand and decided it was time. It is a bit of an investment, at first. However, it is a high quality that should last you a life time and the blade replacements are so cheap! Before my first use, I watched a couple of YouTube videos on how to use properly and safely. I have found that short strokes with a delicate pressure works perfectly. I did nick my legs during the first use, but like I said there is a learning curve. My advice would be to use our when you have plenty of time to do it carefully. I take my razor apart are each use and rinse thoroughly and store in a dry place. This has proven to keep the razor and blade in top shape for long lasting use. Highly recommend!

Not much lather as it’s sulphate free. Left the hair super shiny and clean after wash. Will definitely recommend.
Works really well, doesn’t dry out hair. First “natural” shampoo my daughter (oily hair) really likes and I (dry hair) like it, too. Can’t wait for your store to reopen!
Shampoo bars made with wild-harvested botanicals
These all natural, plastic-free shampoo bars are a such a treat. Hailing from Gott's Island, a tiny island on the Maine coastline, this woman-owned company grows and wild-harvests their botanicals and seaweeds. The bars are handmade with castor oil, soothing seaweed, and botanically infused essential oils. They had us at "wild harvested plant materials."
These shampoo bars last twice as long as a typical bottle of shampoo. We stock the curly hair, straight hair, and men's varieties. Each one conditions hair without leaving it greasy. Powdered kelp stimulates the scalp, keeping your hair smooth and shiny, and helping to relieve itchiness.
Check out our soap tins to store your shampoo bars while traveling.
Use and care
Use it just as you would a bar of soap, massaging into your scalp. It will create a sudsy lather, and each one is packed full of plant based goodness to leave your hair silky and shiny.
The curly hair is much more moisturizing, while the straight hair variety is more cleansing.
Size
Each bar is approximately 3 oz.

Dulse & Rugosa is a mother and daughter business in Gotts Island, Maine. Their ingredients start on their small farm or growing along the rocky shores of the island. They handpick each flower, leaf, and piece of seaweed and then solar dry them. Using the dried seaweeds and botanicals, they then handcraft each of the soaps, lotions, scrubs, and oils with love and care.
I have had such a hard time finding a natural shampoo that doesn't leave my hair greasy, and this bar (I use the one for straight hair) does the job. This is the best shampoo I have ever used.
I am super pleased with this curly hair shampoo bar. I have used shampoo bars before and I have used multiple regular sham
I have a mess of thick curly hair, and I do not shampoo frequently unless I want to resemble a poodle. I have used this bar sparingly over the past month and it leaves a beautiful shine on my hair, my hair is actually soft instead of wiry and after drying, my halo of frizzies are noticeably softer and tamer. I just ordered the curly hair conditioner to use with this, and I think the results are going to be even more fabulous/define my curls more. Highly recommend!
I recently purchased the shampoo bar and have used it 4 times. Unfortunately it makes my hair feel really greasy and dull so I don’t like it:( maybe my husband will like it, thanks anyway 😊
Recently re-purchased the Lovely Rita shampoo bar for curly hair. I am Black and wear my hair naturally curly, and have found that this shampoo bar works great for me. If you're like me and don't wash your hair every time you shower -- or, if you have roommates who also use the shower but don't share shampoo -- I would suggest that you don't store the bar in the shower, even on a wire rack. Even just a little water getting on it during each shower will dissolve it faster. With my second bar, I've been storing it like this (https://bit.ly/2Rt9oOg), and I can already tell that it will last much longer this time.
Cruising Bar - shampoo, shower and shave

They're handmade on a tiny island in Maine, biodegradable and palm-oil free, so you can feel good about your footprint.
Store your bar in our soap tin for your next adventure.

Equally wonderful as shampoo, body soap or shaving cream. Cut off a piece if you just need a tiny bit for a weekend away. Every now and then, store with the lid open so it can dry.

After just 2 hair washes using this soap bar I am in love!! As someone who experiences both dandruff and excess oil production (probably because I should massage my scalp more, tbh) this shampoo bar has helped tame and soothe my scalp and hair, my hair is now happier than it's been in a long while. I also love using it to wash/cleanse my face because of the tea tree in it that has wonderful antibacterial properties. I haven't tried it for shaving as I don't really have ever, but I'm sure it's great for that, too. Will definitely be getting more when they are back in stock!!
Organic cocoa butter conditioner bar
This locally made conditioner bar is super moisturizing and has a subtle scent of cocoa butter and geranium with a touch of tea tree oil. It can last up to 100 uses depending on on the length of your hair.
We love it for travel since it's compact and solid - it's a great minimalist conditioner choice!

My boyfriend and I both use it and love it. I have wavy blonde hair that is very dry, he has curly brown hair that is thicker, coarser, and has a problem with being oily. Somehow it works perfect for both of us and we fight over the bar. 100% best conditioner I have ever used.
Love the cocoa butter conditioner bar! Switching away from bottled conditioner and this was the first bar I've tried. I have long medium-curly hair that tends to frizz, and this leaves it soft and moisturized, and the curls bouncy. I use it as a CO wash, and it takes a little longer to work into my hair than the bottled stuff, but is overall more convenient to use and will be easier to travel with. Love the minimalist packaging.
I have fine, wavy-to-curly hair. I go back and forth between curly girl and blown out/straightened styles. This conditioner bar is great for both styles. It does not weigh down my hair or curls. It’s also long-lasting I have used 3-4x a week for the past two months and the bar is about half gone. Recommend for anyone looking to reduce plastic/packaging!
It took my hair a couple of washes to get used to it, but now my curls are super hydrated and happy with this conditioner bar. Definitely would recommend for my fellow curly haired friends :)
I absolutely love this bar! It leaves my curly hair so soft and moisturized! It is the best conditioner I have found for my hair and even more amazing that it is plastic free! I love using a bar soap and conditioner too as it's so easy for travel with less mess. I hope the company that makes these never stops or changes the formula.

End of life
When properly cared for, this hair brush can last for decades. It is completely compostable at the end of its life.
After cleaning this brush numerous times, I still find it awkward (as noted below), but it's getting easier. The trick to cleaning it is to thoroughly comb or brush it to remove as many hair strands as you can before cleaning.
With most hair strands removed, it's much easier to scrub carefully with a mild soap and a nail brush, sideways under running water, being careful to not get water into the brush. Then I let it dry, face down so any water runs out.
Solid, but quite light. Just the right amount of stiffness in the bristles, gets through tangles and scratches the scalp in a good way. Feels like it will still be a great brush for years to come.
This brush is sturdy and made of quality materials, and feels like it will last several years. If I was basing this review on durability, it would get 5 out of 5.
However it requires frequent cleaning (at least in the land of LA smog) and is difficult to clean. You can't submerge the brush and soak it. You have to be careful not to get water in to it, while awkwardly scrubbing the wooden bristles.
I wish the rubber portion that held the bristles could be popped out and washed separately, then popped back in again.
