Not to be mistaken for the charcoal you typically use for your BBQ, activated charcoal is created by burning carbon rich materials (like wood or coconut shells) at high temperatures. This creates a powder that is very porous which is why it is great for drawing out toxins, dirt and oil. Activated charcoal is generally used in skin, hair and dental care products. We love using it in DIY face masks.
