Skincare while camping: zero waste edition!
Our skincare comes with us everywhere - even when we're out in the great outdoors! A good day out in nature means lots of hiking, swimming, and lounging in the sun... which also means a ton of sunscreen and sweat resting on our skin by the end of it.
Translating your skincare routine for a camping trip can be tricky, especially if you're going backpacking. When we take a trip out into nature, we tweak our routine depending on how far we're going, what services are available at our camping site, and how much room we have in our pack.
Generally we try to keep things pared-down to the essentials, but we also love to sneak in a few small luxuries where we can! We love the convenience of no-rinse products like micellar water, and the space-saving power of multi-use products like argan oil and castile soap. Read on for our full packing list for camping skincare!
Beauty Essentials for Camping
-
Toothbrush - of course we love our bamboo toothbrushes! Compact and simple, these come with us on every trip.
-
Toothpaste tablets - these are so easy to travel with, and you can save on space by only bringing the exact number you need for your travel!
-
Moisturizer - A bottle of organic argan oil will work well for face, hair, and skin. We also love to slip our Dew Mighty jelly serum bar into our bag, if we're looking for a luxurious moment!
-
Micellar Water - If I’m not going far, I’ll bring some micellar water to wipe away sweat, dirt and sunscreen - it's the best feeling after a hike. Usually I’ll just use the edge of a bandana but a couple reusable cotton facial rounds don’t take up much space! If I am going far, I’ll use a gentle Castile soap for everything - washing my face, body and dishes.
-
Sunscreen! This is a must. Travel size or even a tin from raw elements (the solid form doesn’t spill, get crushed or melt 💯)
-
First Aid Kit - Gotta be ready for anything! We like to keep a mini one in a Stashers bag, with all the essentials like gauze, bandages, neosporin and anti inflammatory painkillers.
-
Vitamins - who do you think we are??? Travel without vitamins? yeah right. 😉 The little gummy vitamins also give us our favorite boost of a sweet treat - we bring ours along in a cute travel tin!
-
Deodorant. While we love our alum stone crystal deodorant for the day-to-day, it also relies on applying it to clean underarms. Which, to be honest, isn't always guaranteed on the trail! We love this cardboard tube deodorant - it's from Target and it’s compact, compostable and smells like coconuts.
